MISSION
STATEMENT
To enhance science, technology, engineering,
and mathematics (STEM) teaching, learning, and research
through educational programs and resources that provide
necessary skills and knowledge for successful lives in the
new millennium.
Create and sustain a mega-facility, "The
San Luis Obispo Discovery Center," to promote informal
education through exciting interactive hands-on, minds-on
learning experiences in all STEM fields for all ages.

Promote
science/technology/engineering/mathematics (STEM) teaching,
learning, and research that improves conceptual understanding,
process skills, and problem-solving skills.

Become
a leader in the development of innovative ideas for STEM
education and research.

Work
with school districts, colleges, and universities locally,
nationally, and internationally, to address areas of need
relative to STEM teaching at all grade levels.

Establish
and maintain a Institute for Discovery Complex with interactive
exploratorium (exhibits, classrooms, planetarium, observatory,
IMAX theater), STEM resource center, wellness center, conference
center, organic farm, and organic farm restaurant.

Provide
on-line virtual resource center of STEM educational links
for content and pedagogy.

Provide
STEM educational programs for K-12 students based on national
and state teaching/learning standards that will enhance
learning and test scores.

Develop
and provide professional development workshops, seminars,
conferences and environmental field-based courses for preservice
and in-service teachers as well as the general public.

Actively
seek external funding to develop and/or enhance STEM curriculum,
instruction, and assessment programs/materials.

Assist
school districts, non-profits, colleges, universities, etc.
in the pursuit of external funding.

Conduct
research in STEM education.

Conduct
research in organic farming practices.

Strive
for multicultural and gender equitable STEM education.
