WELCOME TO THE DISCOVERY INSTITUTE'S
WHY WORK WITH A TUTOR?
Whether you are an "A" student or a "D" student, if you are seeking to gain a better grasp of content in your science class, improve your grade, and to generally become a more successful student you have come to the right place. The Discovery Institute for the Advancement of Science and Technology Education is now offering high quality science tutoring for middle-school through college.
Science has traditionally been considered a hard subject for students to master. It is often presented as a voluminous series of facts to be memorized for a test. It is no wonder students become intimidated. Our tutors make science interesting and easy to understand by organizing and connecting the many facts into fundamental concepts which are then connected so you "get the big picture.". We explain the content in multiple ways using everyday examples, illustrations, analogies, and experiences, while adapting to different learning styles and accommodating for any learning difficulties and scientific misconceptions. This can't be done in the typical lecture room.
Students often become overwhelmed by the vast amount of material and terms that make it seem like your dealing with a foreign language. Tutoring you one-on-one or in small groups allows us to quickly focus on your individual needs so we can identify and deal with conceptual gaps and problem areas. We give you strategies for reading science textbooks, taking notes in class, taking science exams, managing time, and organizing scientific understanding in ways that will bring it alive and meaningful for you. We will also give you quizzes and practice tests, and immediately following, will go over your results focusing on missed questions.
Our tutors are extremely patient and create a comfortable atmosphere without distractions. We can offer tutoring in various science subject matter from sixth grade through college.
We are confident that you will achieve dramatic increases in your test scores, scientific comprehension, and acquire much more satisfaction with your learning.
We regularly work with your teachers and parents to insure that we resonate with what you are doing in class and at home. We are familiar with National and California Science standards and will often address these standards during our tutoring sessions.
If you are desire a tutor over an extended period, such as a semester, we will set up a contract to ensure you will meet your goals and expectations.
When you choose a tutor it is best to base your decision on their experience, knowledge, and track record as a successful tutor. All Discovery Institute tutors are current or retired science teachers with Master's and Doctorate degrees. Each has a minimum of 20 years of teaching excellence in middle school, high school, and college. Each tutor also has professional experience in scientific research and development, both in the field and laboratory. This level of professional experience in science and science education enables us to provide the highest quality tutoring-learning experience. We relate what your learning to the "real world," which makes science more relevant, exciting, and meaningful. We can also help guide you toward a successful scientific career.
Note: All our tutors have passed Background Checks.

"Education has no higher purpose than preparing people to lead personally fulfilling and responsible lives. For its part, science education—meaning education in science, mathematics, and technology—should help students to develop the understandings and habits of mind they need to become compassionate human beings able to think for themselves and to face life head on. It should equip them also to participate thoughtfully with fellow citizens in building and protecting a society that is open, decent, and vital. America's future—its ability to create a truly just society, to sustain its economic vitality, and to remain secure in a world torn by hostilities—depends more than ever on the character and quality of the education that the nation provides for all of its children."
